Attention: Parents!

  • If you haven’t done so, please return your family registration form! Thank you to all who have!
  • Please bring a family picture to your children’s classrooms.
  • Be sure to get a copy of Seeds of Purpose to aid your children in their Scripture memorization this year!
  • Next Sunday children will have an opportunity to share their Scripture verse with the whole church during worship. Please work with your children to memorize September’s verse:

Mark 12:30-31Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.

Toddlers: Creation

In the toddler room we’ve been reading the creation account in God Made Our WorldYou might ask your child, “What are some things God created in your world?” Go on a nature hunt together and thank God for those things.

Preschool: Creation

Preschoolers heard the story of Creation and spent time reflecting individually.

  • I wonder which of God’s gifts of creation were your favorite?
  • I wonder what the light looked like the first time it came?
  • I wonder how God felt about His creation?

Grades K-1: The Terrible Lie

Children in K-1st grade learned about the Fall from the Jesus Storybook Bible and spent time reflecting quietly with art materials.

  • I wonder why Satan became a snake?
  • I wonder why Adam and Eve believed Satan and ate the fruit?
  • I wonder if the snake was standing or lying down? I wonder if he felt bad about what he had done?
  • I wonder how life was different for Adam and Eve?

Grades 2-4: The Fall, Genesis 3:1-13, 16-17, 21

Elementary students also learned about the Fall.

  • Which of the “I Am” statements of Jesus has resonated with you the most?

Preschoolers reviewed how to walk, talk, think, and pray in their worship space together.  They heard the story of the Good Shepherd and spent time reflecting individually.

  • I wonder if the sheep have names.
  • I wonder if the sheep are happy in this place.
  • I wonder how the sheep feel with the Good Shepherd.
  • I wonder how the Good Shepherd feels about the sheep.

Grades K-1: The Beginning

DIG Kickoff Sunday! 2016

Toddlers: Creation

We will spend the next month talking about creation by reading part of the creation account in God Made Our World (above). You might ask your child, “What are some things God created in your world?” Go on an exploration together and thank God for those things.

Preschool: Orientation to Worship

Preschoolers learned how to walk, talk, think, and pray in their worship space together.  They spent time reflecting individually about what it’s like to listen to God’s voice.

  • What do you think God’s voice sounds like?
  • How can you get ready to listen to God?
  • What does it look and sound like to prepare to worship God in preschool DIG?

Grades K-4: Introduction/Creation

Elementary children learned about the weekly rhythms of their classrooms and began to explore the Creation story.

  • What did you draw during your individual time of reflection with God?
  • What is worship like in your DIG classroom?
  • What was your favorite part of the Creation story?

Grades 5-6: Introductions/John 1:12-13; Gal 3:26-29

Younger middle schoolers learned about the how the 5-6 room works. They did a community building activity, read scripture together, and decorated their DIG journal covers.

  • Re-read scripture passages: How do we become children of God? What does life as a child of God look like? What does being a child of God mean to you?
  • What did you draw in your journal?

Grade 7-8: Introductions/John 15:1-17

The older middle schoolers will spend the next few months exploring Jesus’ “I Am” statements in the book of John. Today they focused on what Jesus meant by “I am the Vine,” and spent some time getting to know one another.

  • Re-read scripture passage: What does it mean to you that Jesus is the Vine? How does that influence the way you follow Him?

DIG Kickoff

Don’t forget – DIG Kickoff is 1 week from today: Sunday, September 11! We will be offering classes for children infants through 8th grade.

That day you’ll receive a Family Packet with important information, and children will move up to their new grade level. We’ll also be celebrating students entering middle school during the service. It’s an exciting day, and we hope you’ll join us!

If you’re interested in getting a head start on this year’s Bible memory verses, you can order the Seeds of Purpose CD that we will be using to memorize scripture. We will also have a few copies available for purchase at the Kickoff.

Toddlers: Creation

This month the toddlers will be learning about Creation.  Some possible activities:

  • Reread the story of Creation in the Jesus Calling Bible or Jesus Storybook Bible.
  • As you observe God’s creation through nature, encourage your children to point out the things that God made.
  • Teach your children this sweet song: “All Things Bright & Beautiful.”
