Toddlers

We will spend the next month talking about creation by reading the creation account in the big book God Made Our World. Questions to talk with your toddler about:

*What are some things God created in your world? Go an exploration together and thank God for those things.

Preschool-Creation, Genesis 1-2:3

Preschoolers will spend the next 2 months looking at stories from the Old Testament, that display the ark of God’s redemptive story.  This week was the Creation story.

*I wonder which of God’s gifts of creation were your favorite?

*I wonder what it was like to be with God as he created?

*I wonder what the light looked like the first time it came?

Grades K-1-The Beginning: a Perfect Home (Jesus Storybook Bible), Genesis 1 and 2

Younger Elementary children continued  Jesus Storybook Bible story, The Beginning: A Perfect Home, which tells the story of Creation.

*I wonder how God created things with words?

*I wonder what the trees looked like that God first created?

*I wonder what it was like for the world to be perfect?

Grades 2-4 Fall, Genesis 3

Older Elementary children explored the story of Adam and Eve’s fall.

*I wonder why Satan became a snake?

*I wonder why Adam and Eve believed Satan and ate the fruit?

*I wonder if the snake was standing or lying down?  I wonder if he felt bad about what he had done

*I wonder how life was different for Adam and Eve?

Grades 5-6 What is Scripture?:

Younger Middle Schoolers continue decorating their DIG journal covers, describing how God has created them uniquely and dove into their month long study of scripture.

*Reread Gen 1:3, Ps 19:1-2-What stood out to you about what scripture is?

*What did you discover about who wrote scripture and about how its organized?

Grade 7-8  Mark 1

IMG_0091The Older Middle Schoolers spent some time getting to know one another and then discussed the launch of their semester long bible study of the gospel of Mark.  Each week they will look at a new passage through the lens of these questions.  They looked at Mark 1

1. What does this passage teach me about Jesus?

2. What does this passage teach me about following Jesus?

3. So what? (What difference does this make for my life?)

Meet our DIG Leadership Team

As many of you may know, I work with team of gifted volunteer “Gardeners” on the DIG Leadership Team.  Each of these Gardeners oversees one the DIG classrooms.  For those of you new to BeFree or who have children entering a new DIG classroom, here’s an snapshot of what they do and who they are.

What do DIG Gardeners do?

*Ensure their classroom(s) are tidy and sufficiently supplied.

*Communicate weekly with classroom volunteers to check in about each Sunday’s class and to respond to questions and concerns.  Help train new classroom volunteers.

*Communicate with Jackie and attend bimonthly Leadership meetings.

*Pray for classroom volunteers and children.

*Consider ways to further the DIG vision in their classroom.

Shawn and Maranda live in Dover with their 4 kids Arilyn, Addison, Owen, and Alexa.  They are gifted photographers and videographers and are responsible for all our wonderful DIG videos and photos.  Shawn is a doctor and Maranda is studying to become a teacher. Preschool Gardener: Gina Henker

Gina Henker lives in Dover with her husband Adam and three children.  She likes old lady activities like embroidery, gardening and reading big novels and the news.  She absolutely adores the energy and unpredictability of preschoolers.


Grades K-1 Gardener: Courtney Sessler

Courtney lives in Dover with her husband Eric and their two sons Owen and Charlie.  She recently returned to working at Horne Street School.  She’s excited to see our K-1 class growing from 1 to 2 classrooms this year!


Grades 2-4 Gardener: Lindsay Healey

Lindsay lives in Dover with her husband Randy and their 3 children Jenni, Maddie, and Jacob.  She works as a speech and language pathologist at a special needs preschool in Sandford, ME. She is our newest member to the DIG Leadership Team!

Preschool -The Good Shepherd, Psalm 23

Preschoolers reviewed how to walk, talk, think, and pray in their new worship space together.  They also heard the story of The Good Shepherd.  God as our shepherd is a recurring theme throughout the year of preschool stories.

*I wonder if the sheep have names?

*I wonder if the sheep are happy in this place?

*I wonder how the sheep feel with the Good Shepherd?

*I wonder how the Good Shepherd feels about the sheep?

Grades K-1-The Story and the Song, Psalm 19, Hebrews 1

Younger Elementary children had their first Jesus Storybook Bible story, The Story and the Song, which gives an overview of what the Bible is all about.

*I wonder where I see God say “I love you” in your life?

*I wonder what part of the Story of the Bible will be most exciting? Most interesting?

*I wonder who this Child will be in the Story?

Grades 2-4 Creation, Genesis 1

Older Elementary children reviewed how the 24 room works and how each week will go.  They discussed how to use materials safely and how to spend a reflection time well.

*I wonder what it was like before God created light?

*I wonder why God created water before land?

*I wonder why God created humans?

*Where did Adam live?

Younger Elementary children learned about the how the K1 room works and how each week will go.  They read the excerpt In All the Earth from Sally Lloyd Jones’ devotional Thoughts to make my Heart Sing.  They discussed how to prepare their hearts and minds to worship, how to spend time individually with God, and how to use crayons and paper safely and creatively.

*What does it look and sound like to prepare to worship God in K-1?

Grades 2-4 Introductions

Older Elementary children learned about the how the 24 room works and how each week will go.  They read the excerpt In All the Earth from Sally Lloyd Jones’ devotional Thoughts to make my Heart Sing.  They discussed how to prepare their hearts and minds to worship, how to spend time individually with God, and how to use colored pencils, marker, paper and crayons safely.

Younger Middle Schoolers learned about the how the 56 room works and how each week will go.  They did a community building activity, read some scripture together, and decorated their DIG journal covers.

Grade 7-8 Introductions, Study of Mark

The Older Middle Schoolers spent some time getting to know one another and then looked at the passages 1 Cor. 11:1 and John 14:1-6 and discussed them through the lens of these questions:

1. Who do you follow?

2. What do you follow?

3. So what? (What difference does this make for my life?)

Preschool-Dorcas, Follower of Jesus  Helps the Poor in Judea Acts 9:36-42

The Preschoolers brought home their portfolios from the summer!  Enjoy looking through all their many reflections and talking with them about their times meeting with God.

*I wonder how the people are feeling when Dorcas is dying?

*I wonder how the people are feeling seeing Dorcas alive again?

*I wonder what it means for these people to believe that Jesus is the Christ?
