With Mothers’ Day right around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to feature books for mothers and about mothers. Several of the books below are available at the Dover Public Library (DPL), as indicated below.
Happy Mothers’ Day!
Fringe Hours By Jessica Turner http://fringehours.com/
(available @ DPL)
This blogger and working mom shares how she carves out time in her day to pursue her relationship with God and other passions, making her a fuller person and better mom. Both practical and inspiring.
The Mother and Child Project by Melinda Gates and other contributors
(available @ DPL)
This incredible book calls on all of us to champion the cause of mothers and children the world over. It features many voices, giving a full range of experiences and stories.
Love the Home you Have by Melissa Michaels
I haven’t read this one yet but am really looking forward to it!(I’ve requested it to be purchased at the DPL) The author, an award winning blogger of The Inspired Room gives a Godly perspective on how to fight perfectionism and embrace in grace in creating a home.
Kara Tippetts, mother of 4, battled terminal breast cancer and just went home to Jesus a month ago. Before she passed she wrote this deeply moving account of journeying through suffering with Christ. Highly recommended.
Mom Enough by Rachel Jankovic and other contributors
This book, written from many voices, was written in response to a highly provocative Times article about motherhood, with the same title (“Mom Enough?”). Instead of exhorting us to be enough the authors encourage mothers to ask the more important question “Is God Enough?”
50 Women every Christian should Know by Michelle De Rusha
A fascinating look at Christian women throughout history and how God walked them through challenges not unlike ours in present day and used them to be a part of his redemptive plan.
